As the popularity of video content grows, it is vital to add this asset to your marketing plan. Video can often be shown preference in algorithms on social media, and is an easy and attention-grabbing way to inform current and prospective patients about your practice and service offerings. With Virginia Creative Group’s photo and video services, you can record your own video and send it to us, and we will edit it, add your practice’s branding elements, optimize it and share it across all platforms.
Steps To Recording A Good Quality Video
1. Understand The Purpose Of The Video
What do you want patients and prospective patients to know about your practice? How do you want them to feel? What information would be important for them to know? Asking these questions ahead of time will set your video up for success!
- If it is an informational video, show off your knowledge by explaining different areas of your expertise.
- If it is a patient testimonial, prepare the right questions to ask them to prompt answers that will boost your business. (Example questions: How does the practice make you feel? Tell me a little bit about Dr. ___. How has this practice helped you?)
- If this is to get to know the doctor video, have questions that will show off your expertise as well as your love for the job. (Example questions: Why did you choose to work in healthcare? What’s the best part about treating patients? What are some frequently asked questions and their answers?)
2. Choose The Environment
Find a place in the office with the following:
- A closed-off space to minimize outside noise and distractions
- A clean space that won’t have clutter in the background or surrounding the subject
- Natural light coming in to shine on the subject
3. Set Up Your Equipment
Once you have acquired a clean, quiet and bright space, start setting up the equipment:
- Have something holding the phone or camera that is stable. We recommend this tripod.
- Hold the phone horizontally/landscape to record the video.
- Have the phone at eye level of the person speaking
- Have space around the subject (top and sides) to allow for flexibility when editing. We don’t need to see the pores of the speaker! It is good to have space so we can change dimensions for different uses on social media.
- Place the subject/speaker of the video where the natural light will be on their face
- If you want to go the extra mile, we recommend this for clear audio.
- If there are no rooms with natural light that are closed off, we recommend this light to have a good visual of the subject:
4. Record The Video
Once the equipment is set up, start to record the video!
- If a patient is to be recorded, make sure they have already signed a Photo Release form to avoid privacy violations.
- Make sure the clothes and the hair are just how you or the subject wants them to be.
- Make sure the subject is in focus and the video is sharp.
- Take pauses in between thoughts. The editor will make the pieces come together in a way that will speak to your audience.
- Avoid using filler words such as “um” and “like.”
- If the speaker is being asked a question, have them repeat the question within the answer. For example: If asked “What is your favorite color?” the speaker should respond with “My favorite color is red.” NOT “Red.”
- Know when to look at the camera or look at the person beside the camera. When a provider is talking, have them look at the camera. It allows the audience to feel like the provider is talking to them. If a patient is talking, have them look at you, not the camera. It creates a more conversational feel for the audience.
- Record spots in the office that are mentioned in the video. For example, if a patient says, “When I walk into the practice I feel welcomed,” record a video of the outside of the practice, walk into the practice, be greeted by the receptionist, be taken back to the room, etc. B-roll footage like this enhances the video and creates an immersive experience for the viewer.
- Record as many takes as you need to get what you want across! Good videos can take time based on how comfortable the speaker is in front of the camera. Take a deep breath and have fun with it!
5. Share Your Videos
