How to create remarkable, memorable client relationships. Creating a remarkable, memorable relationship doesn’t just make patients feel good. It makes you feel good—and as an extra bonus, it gets you referred! You’re in this field to help people and improve lives, right? So why not take it up a few steps—beyond just amazing medical care?
Because even if you provide the best medical care in the world, you’re still working with humans. And the human-centric stuff is what helps good medical practices become great ones. (Hiring and genuine people who want to be part of something bigger How to retain employees and grow your practice makes all of this much easier).
Follow these tips to create remarkable, memorable relationships that will get your practice referred—while also creating a feel-good vibe for everyone involved:
- Listen and repeat. Listening is a lost art, so when someone actually listens and genuinely cares, it gets noticed. When conversing with patients, pay attention to what the problem, concern or joy is. Identify that by re-stating it to the patient: What an accomplishment to become first chair flute! Then tell the doctor or another staff member who will also congratulate them—or put it in the system and….
- Send a card or note. You will be amazed by the impact that comes from sending a card or note…not just for birthdays, but for those special things a patient tells you about. Like a card that welcomes Fido to the family (after your patient excitedly shared this during their appointment).
- Keep asking for feedback. Ask for feedback from patients at every step—even during your examination. Does that feel okay? Is this better?Think about how you can make it easier to give feedback during and after appointments. Always thank them and let them know you’ve heard them, and that you’re changing because of their feedback: Thank you! We will work on that!
- Use the power of the unexpected. Unexpected things at unexpected times are always a great way to strengthen relationships, both with patients and with your team (like we mentioned here How to make them feel appreciated). Simply put, it makes people feel special! And in doing that, you’re making an impact that will help define you.
Always remember, your patients are human, just like you! Keeping that in mind will always help you make the right step towards a remarkable, memorable, referable relationship.
