Do you have a team member who’s itching to handle your practice’s marketing? That’s great. Here are some tips on how often to get things done, and how long it takes. This way you can set your in-house marketer up for success!
The person handling your in-house marketing needs these things to be successful:
- Strategy
- Knowledge
- Deadlines
- Accountability
- A budget! (for Google AdWords, boosting social media posts, creating marketing materials, swag, contests, etc.)
- And most of all, TIME!
When it comes to time, here’s a specific breakdown of how much time we recommend allotting to various marketing efforts, and how often to do them…
- Patient education. Graphics, flyers and materials. 1 hour per week.
- Social media (Instagram and Facebook). 3-5 social media posts per week. 1 hour per week.
- Extra social media (YouTube, Tiktok). Assuming these channels are where your target patients are AND you’re already doing basic social media, we recommend one video and/or Tiktok per week. 1 hour per week.
- External events. Community marketing. Ordering swags, prepping gifts. 2 hours per week.
- Patient contests. Quarterly. 2 hours per week.
- Blogging. At least once a month. 2 hours per week.
- Updating website. 1 hour a week.
- Email marketing. Quarterly practice newsletter at bare minimum. 2 hours per week.
Time needed for in-house marketing basics: At least 12 hours per week.
That’s not all. To attract new patients, you’ll want to advertise on Google and maximize your website’s search engine optimization through strategy and relevant keywords. To manage Google AdWords and grow and engage your audience through SEO, your in-house marketer will need further training, expertise and time. If they happen to be Google certified and don’t need additional training, estimate 3 hours per week.
